Our state-of-the-art shelter
VCHS has moved into the animal shelter, and construction is complete. It has been built on 2 acres of land owned by VCHS on Nelson Parkway in the Viroqua Industrial Park. The new building helps us:
- Provide adequate space for Vernon County’s expected growth.
- Safeguard dogs and cats under our care — many of them lost family pets — in a clean, comfortable, healthful environment.
- Incorporate modern design advances that protect animals and encourage adoptions.
- Save energy dollars and staffing costs through efficient design.
Design features include an entry with air locks; public reception area; visiting room for adoptions; dog adoption runs; cat adoption room; cat colony room; dog isolation; cat isolation; medical/intake room; food preparation area; laundry; garage; and night drop-off kennels.
See our new Cat Habitat!
Vernon County Humane Society was presented with a exciting, creative new cat habitat on Saturday, April 12, which was designed, constructed, and donated by Douglas Sharpless. The structure employs PVC culvert, composite decking boards, and nylon rope materials, and colorful toys. The three towers and connecting boards are designed to allow cats to snooze, play, climb, hide, explore, and sharpen claws! This view shows Yancy testing out one of the cozy beds, but doesn't show the entire structure. A very big thank you, and a warm round of applause and meows for Douglas!
